I remember a Alan Dickens goal that was pure sublime. A Brooking replica. Can't recall who it was against but I think he got two and Cottee got one . Maybe it was with Bobby Barnes in the team too,Was it a 4-1 win...Jonny Lyall was the manager and we had a load of inuries, thus the younsgters

Frankly van der Elst vs. Man City in 1982. September Saturday afternoon. One of my favourite games. Second half goal clean through on goal from the halfway way. Angled his run in towards goal, slotting past Alex Williams (?) in front of the North bank to make it 4-1.

Also in the same I think Ray Stewart missed a pen, with Alex Williams unfortunate enough to get in the way of an absolute blast down the middle in front of the south bank.

I have never seen the goals from the first match I attended, a 4-0 win over Birmingham on the first day of the 83/84 season.

Well I saw them on the day, but all I really remember from the day was the smell of the grass, buying some peanuts and the way everyone cheered whenever Brooking touched the ball.

That match was on Midweek Sports Special. Matt Lorenzo was introducing it before most of us got home that night. My Mum taped it for me and I took it into school the next day to watch in our form room (which had a VHS player).

Re: One for us 50/60 year olds
This doesn’t really count now, as thinking about it made me look it up and I found it on YouTube.
But it’s a belter.
Away to Arsenal 1994, Mad Dog took it on the half way line and drove down the middle before spanking it from 25 yards or more into the top corner.

A mate of mine had grown up in North London and worked in hospitality at Arsenal and Tottenham, and he blagged us in through the trades entrance at half time.
We went into the Adidas box, as they hadn’t taken it up.
Ate the sandwiches and drank the beer.
The balcony was above the Away supporters, the end WH were attacking.
Allen’s shot was swerving and I had time to stand up, sit down because I thought it was going wide, and stand up again before it slammed into the top corner.
0-2.
Lovely.

Home to Villa in the mid eighties, Brendan Ormsby hit a rocket from way outside the penalty area, they went on to win 2- I think. Oh and the Di Canio goal.

Although that was an assist (for Slater ) rather than a goal.

I'm sure Julian scored a couple of beamers v Oxford in consecutive seasons, one of them from about 30 yards. Haven't seen either of them since they day they were scored.

I was in the south bank for Tonka's volley, incredible goal, and I don't know if I can be sure but I seem to recall it was with his left peg, or maybe not?

Re: One for us 50/60 year olds
Sven, I was gonna say the same Mad Dog goal v Wimbledon. League cup wasn't it? I was in the Westsude lower. We were losing and had a player sent off, Dicks? That was the equaliser and the place went crazy. We went on to win and then we stayed after for the Bond Scheme protests if my memory serves me right?

Martin Allen's league Cup goal against the dirty dons was superb.
I was stood on the northbank and every corner the coins were raining in at there players with Eric Young being one of the main targets.
My voice had totally gone the next day
One of the great Upton park nights.
